Re: Time Zoner 1.04

Hmmm is there any automated solution to update the main repo with addons on the updater?

The only other way to handle this would be some way to add all the addon authors in databases github pages somehow to the updater or something.

Addons would be in releases, and source, well technically for dev snapshots of addons you can get it with git client  and with some stuff not compiled who knows.

I guess the user could have several repos connected.

Linux does this but obviously thats a chunk of work.

Hello
well you can try this:
import api
from browseMode import BrowseModeTreeInterceptor
obj = api.getNavigatorObject().treeInterceptor
if isinstance(obj, BrowseModeTreeInterceptor):
    BrowseModeTreeInterceptor.script_nextHeading(obj, gesture)
and if yo want to go to previous heading use
BrowseModeTreeInterceptor.script_previousHeading(obj, gesture)
and same thing with script_nextLink and script_previousLink
and other items also
attached with the message a file test1.py
script to go to next heading
in this file the script is executed inside a global plugin with the gesture: control+f2
enable scratchpad directory from advanced settings
open it, then put the file in the globalPlugins directory inside it
then restart NVDA,or reload plugins so that you can test it
hope that help.

Re: StationPlaylist 20.07 released, sneak preview of 20.09, the next long-term support release #addonrelease

Hi,

For other add-on authors: essentially, I’m aligning SPL add-on source code with that of NVDA Core when it comes to table navigation commands. This does involve looking at latest NVDA source code, specifically the code responsible for implementing a base class in hopes of reducing duplication and opening up possibilities (in my case, fake row behavior class).

The inspiration behind this exercise is Task Manager and how details view can be navigated via touch. On any table (provided that NVDA recognizes it as one), when you perform one finger flick left or right, NVDA will move inside the table row, letting you explore columns. I then realized that SPL ad-on does not comply with this approach even though NVDA is told to recognize certain StationPlaylist elements as a table. Looking at the add-on code also helped me realize that I need to refactor the entire add-on source code as a whole to make it align better with NVDA and Python best practices.

I don’t expect everyone to go through this exercise with their add-ons all the time – just something to try if you have time and willingness to do so.

A tip for anyone wishing to package parts or the entire add-on as NVDA pull requests: think about features your add-on is implementing, then look at the actual source code behind the function/class your are using in your add-ons. Then create a new branch in whatever version control package you are using (Git, for example), then work on refactoring your add-on based on what NVDA says in source code. Doing so will let you know parts of your add-on that needs to be refactored, and in some cases, opening up more refactoring possibilities. As I mentioned a few days ago, when it comes to NVDA pull requests, you need to follow practices established by NV Access, which is more rigorous than community add-ons (as promised, I’ll start a brand new thread concerning transforming add-ons into NVDA pull requests).

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi all,

StationPlaylist add-on 20.07 (stable) is now available. This version includes bug fixes and changes that will be utilized fully in future add-on releases. In addition, you can now press Control+F9 from SPL encoder window to connect all encoders. As always, the new add-on update is just an add-on update check away.

IMPORTANT: if you are using SAM or SPL encoders, the command to label encoder labels (F12) is gone as of this release. To label encoders, press Alt+NVDA+number row 0 to open encoder settings, and enter the label from “encoder label” field and click OK.

Speaking of future add-on releases, you’ll see two notable releases in the next few months:

  • 20.08: this version will include scoped set of optimizations from the next long-term support release, along with updating various localizations.
  • 20.09-LTS: yes, you read it right. Version 20.09 is the next long-term support release, and will be the last series to support Studio 5.20 and old NVDA technologies. Unlike past long-term support releases, 20.09.x will be supported until June 2021 at the earliest. This can change based on what happens with add-on maintenance next year.

In addition to being the next long-term support release, another job of 20.09 will be showcasing refactored add-on internals. Until now various add-on features such as moving between columns in playlist items in Studio and Track Tool didn’t really move to next or previous columns – the add-on only announced column content. Subsequent tests found that this mechanism didn’t allow the add-on to be used by low vision users, and the internals didn’t quite align with how NVDA manages to navigate tables. There are also parts of the add-on that didn’t quite fit Python coding best practices.

The goal of upcoming 20.09 release is to resolve these issues and more. To give you a preview of what’s being done:

  • When you move between columns in playlist items found in Studio, Track Tool and such, it’ll feel as though you are interacting with a table. The biggest beneficiary of this change will be low vision users who can now use magnification software to read track item columns more easily.
  • Certain old assumptions found in encoders support is being refactored (no user visible changes).
  • And many more.

If you want to test preview features, subscribe to development channel (NVDA menu/Preferences/Settings/Add-on Updater/Prefer development releases). Note that development snapshots might be unstable at times.

Cheers,

Joseph

Resource Monitor 20.07 #addonrelease

Hello everyone,

Resource Monitor 20.07 is now available. The biggest highlight of this release is a change to how Windows 10 releases are announced. Instead of “Windows 10verYYMM”, NVDA will now say “Windows 10 YYMM”. This was done for consistency with Insider Preview builds and to properly recognize Version 20H2, the next feature update under development.

As always the new add-on update is ready for you by asking Add-on Updater to check for add-on updates (phew, a lot of tongue twisters…). Enjoy.

Cheers,

Joseph

I don't mind it being reviewed or linked to, but the updates will continue to land at the URL I gave, as I automated the

these like there is for TeamTalk, but I forget which ones have that and which don't.

Your offer is kind amid all else you do, by the way. :-)

I have released version 2018.04.2 of the Skype add-on for NVDA, at
https://www.dlee.org/skype/NVDA/skype.nvda-addon

Apologies for the funny version number btw; I only noticed the "2018" after
making several release announcements.

Features:

URL change! The old skype/electron URL will still work for a while, but the
above URL is the new location for this add-on. Please update any pointers
accordingly.

Works with both Skype for Windows Desktop (Skype 8) and Skype UWP for
Windows 10, which is now the same interface.

Fixes review cursor navigation in messages in a chat history list. I did
this long ago, but it broke at some point.

A note for anyone switching Skype incarnations in response to this
unification:

If you are migrating from Skype for Windows Desktop to the newly identical
Skype for Windows 10, check your settings (Ctrl+Comma), because settings
from one version may not be automatically applied to the other even though
the interfaces are the same. I recommend paying particular attention to
where Skype says your audio will come from and go to.

Enjoy.

Oh it can, and it does. See the add-on's issue page. Some long standing stuff that can cause NVDA crashes under some pretty normal circumstances (reading certain dialog boxes, for example).

I don't personally consider it a stable add-on, no matter how it's labeled on the site.

Hello everyone,
Add-on Updater 20.07 is on its way - it will show up in about an hour or so
from now. Key changes include ability to detect and present a message about
legacy add-ons (add-ons with features included in NVDA; as of today, this
applies to Enhanced ARIA, Focus Highlight, and Screen Curtain), and
possibility to save add-on update settings by pressing Control+NVDA+C,
revert to saved settings (Control+NVDA+R), or reset to defaults
(Control+NVDA+R three times).
IMPORTANT: Add-on Updater 20.07 requires NVDA 2020.1 or later. Although the
add-on will work with 2019.3 with modifications, please update to NVDA
2020.1 or later for best experience.

Subject: [nvda-addons] Add-on Updater 20.07 is on its way #AddonRelease

Hello everyone,

Add-on Updater 20.07 is on its way - it will show up in about an hour or
so
from now. Key changes include ability to detect and present a message
about
legacy add-ons (add-ons with features included in NVDA; as of today, this
applies to Enhanced ARIA, Focus Highlight, and Screen Curtain), and
possibility to save add-on update settings by pressing Control+NVDA+C,
revert to saved settings (Control+NVDA+R), or reset to defaults
(Control+NVDA+R three times).

IMPORTANT: Add-on Updater 20.07 requires NVDA 2020.1 or later. Although
the
add-on will work with 2019.3 with modifications, please update to NVDA
2020.1 or later for best experience.

Cheers,

Joseph

Are there not more customisations in focus highlight add on than in the nvda implementation? I only tend to use this add on for when I have sighted people here, to help them grasp what I'm doing, so it probably won't matter to me personally, and to be honest I always did tend to feel focus highlight could cause nvda weird effects. I've not seen those in the normal nvda on its own.
