Re: Which add-ons are you using on secure screens (logon, UAC) Brian's Mail list account #18770 I find secure screens irritating in my usage case. Often when nvda gives that ding noise, the ok etc are not in focus,but behind the screen. I cannot think of a use for any add on, but there are times when the computer misbehaves that it can be handy to look at a screen and you might not actually know what sort of screen it is. I suspect some of the things that worked before were almost by accident and now the criteria has been tightened, some of these have become non operative. I think the actual thing that has been cut, copied pasted etc, is not that relevant in the main, but the actual indication that something has happened is. Thus the add on could be simplified I think. I may install the current one on a portable version and reinstall the older one for ease of use until its probably broken by the new version of NVDA grin. I still maintain that this function should be in the screenreader itself, toggle as it is in others. It also sometimes gets confused if you have used the keypad modes to cut stuff to the clipboard, I get random things like no change or nothing spoken at times. Very weird. I can actually follow how the add on works by looking at string variables and from windows. buts far too complex for me these days. Very well structured and commented. Brian bglists@... Apologies if you've already done this and I missed it, but can you suggest a common use case to demonstrate this? That is to say, not Goldwave or something else specialized, but some combination of Word, Explorer, certain web browsers that most of us might have, etc.? Since we have the Instant Translate add-on, and we have Google Translate, and other translation services that are API driven: What is stopping us from, during an add-on build, calling out to a translation service with the message IDs from a pot file, and using the result to construct multiple language po file results? Wouldn't that give us immediate localization for any add-on? Now, obviously those translations, being machine generated, would be significantly inferior to human derived translations, but not all of us can get translation teams dedicated to translating our add-ons. I would expect some kind of translation, to be better than no translation at all. But I only speak English, and as such have deficient knowledge. So am I wrong? I suspect that I am missing a major factor in this, or it would have been done by someone, long before now. Luke

Re: Proposal/research: compatibility mode for add-ons Noelia Ruiz #18757 Hi Alberto: This PR contains the mentioned unit tests. The relationship with your proposal may not be obvious, but an add-on or other kind of helpeer maybe used to search common sentences used to import code in all modules contained in a folder. For example, some kind of json file maybe included in NVDA or in anadd-on with deprecations or removed modules, and this maybe used by third party application. I use just git grep for now, and the changes for developers. 😄 In my PR for the cursorLocator add-on, unittests are used to import the utils module contained in the add-on, and MagicMock class is used to simulate the config module, since the add-on itself doesn't contain it but it's used by utils, so, if MagicMoc is not used, tests fail. Then, some tests cases are designed, for example, providing preconditions like: config.conf["cursorLocator"]["maxStartNotificationNumber"+ is 1. Then, the utils.shouldReportStartOfLine(text) function will return True and this is evaluated. Just an example.
