Re: Clock and StationPlaylist 21.11, an important reminder on upcoming add-on translation deadline #addonrelease

Hi,

As I advised a few days ago, if you haven't downloaded Studio add-on 21.11, now you can do so. The download link is same as before, and I have just asked the add-on release to be queued for distribution on community add-ons website.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hi Paul, thank you. I found it but I couldn’t change it at least for normal configuration. I’ve not tried for other configurations though. It seems I can change it in the diolog and pressing apply or ok does not produce an error. But since I  experience no change in NVDA behavior I open the dialog again and the option is still in previous state. My experience is on alpha branch.

IT's an configuration profile option
So in add-on settings, choose  "Current configuration profile settings..." menu,
and in " NVDA enhancements" category, you will find the  "Punctuation/symbol level on word movement:" combo box
Best regards.

Save screen bitmap into a file

Javi Domínguez

Hello.

I want to crop an image from the screen and save it to a file. I have no problem taking the image but I can't save it correctly. I do this but the resulting file looks faulty. Does anyone have an idea what I'm doing wrong?

    bm = screenBitmap.ScreenBitmap(width,height)
    px = bm.captureImage(top,left,width,height)
    data = b''.join([
    # file header
    struct.pack("!H", 0X424D), # file type ID
    struct.pack("I", 0XE+bm._bmInfo.bmiHeader.biSize+bm._bmInfo.bmiHeader.biSizeImage), # file size
    struct.pack("H", 0), # reserved
    struct.pack("H", 0), # reserved
    struct.pack("I", 0XE+bm._bmInfo.bmiHeader.biSize), # Image data start possition
    # bitmap header
    bm._bmInfo.bmiHeader,
    # image data
    px])
    with open(r"c:\screenshot.bmp", "wb") as f:
        f.write(data)
Thanks

This isn't in NVDA Core, because it wouldn't make sense to most people for the reasons stated earlier. An add-on could probably be developed to make it happen, and I could also see a case for something like applying a configuration profile to word navigation specifically. In the meantime, changing the punctuation level is the only way.

I'm not sure I fully understand the question.  When I set the punctuation level to All and then navigate with Ctrl+Left/Right Arrow, all punctuation seems to be spoken as expected.  Is the user:

1. asking for that to happen when the punctuation level is not set to All; or
2. indicating that even with it set to All, some punctuation is still not announced?

If the first, I'm not sure why that would be expected.  They would basically be asking for NVDA to ignore their own preferences, and can work around it by setting the punctuation level explicitly.  That's what the setting is for.

If the latter, that's a bug, not an add-on-related concern.

Hello.

I'm severely hearing impaired in addition to being blind, and use phonetic equivalent of letters a lot. But NVDA's phonetic announcement feature isn't really enough for me and I have to constantly double-press numpad2 to hear the phonetic word for a letter.

I have been trying to write an add-on to bring the behavior of JAWS and TalkBack to NVDA, that is, announcing the phonetic equivalent of a letter after a pause. I've been able to do this for the review cursor by copying the scripts for numpad1, numpad2, and numpad3 keys from globalCommands.py module into my global plug-in and modifying them. But as much as I try, I can't find a way to do the same for left and right arrows.

After searching for a while, I found a script in cursorManager.py for left and right arrows, but they just run a method inside cursorManager.py and I can't replace that method. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Notice for StationPlaylist add-on users: limited support for Studio 6, screen review needed for some tasks, future of Studio add-on

Hi all,

The following notice is applicable if you are using StationPlaylist add-on:

StationPlaylist suite (Studio and friends) 6 was released not long ago with screen layout changes. However, the changes go beyond that – after testing Studio 6 for a while, I made the difficult decision to only provide limited support for Studio 6. In addition to layout changes, some important screen elements in StationPlaylist Studio no longer have accessibility labels for screen readers – one must obtain some things by looking at screen content (display text to be exact); one workaround is using screen review to review Studio window content.

More importantly, it is time for me to move on. Some of you may know that I am a graduate student with additional duties for the university I attend. As a result, I have now arrived at a point where I cannot maintain most of my add-ons. In case of StationPlaylist add-on, more than screen layout changes, lack of easy to obtain accessibility labels (especially for status items) was the final straw. Therefore:

StationPlaylist add-on 22.01 (January 2022) will be the final (planned) version of the add-on from me. I may or may not release a compatibility update for NVDA 2022.1 API.

Please help a struggling graduate student by stepping up to maintain StationPlaylist add-on from January 2022 onwards, especially considering that people are migrating to Studio 6. Add-on repo can be found at:

https://github.com/josephsl/stationplaylist

For record keeping purposes, my above statement can be treated as end of maintenance statement from an add-on author.

IMPORTANT: around the same time as end of maintenance for StationPlaylist add-on, I will end maintenance of most of my add-ons except for two: Add-on Updater, and Windows app Essentials; I do imagine both of them leaving my maintenance in the future.

In the meantime, I will published a revised StationPlaylist add-on 21.11 release in coming days that will resolve several issues for Studio 6 users. Thank you.

Cheers,

Joseph
