Re: Automatic language switching based on character set

Tony,

That is a good idea.

In fact I have made such an issue to request such a function on Github before.

I wanna the addon to have the following function.

-able to work not just for website, and also for other programs, like text editors, email clients etc

-able to set specific language and voices for specific language, i.e. not simply to tell it to use English Onecore voice to read English word, but can set which English Onecore voice to read English word

- support for Chinese and Japanese

Thanks and looking forward for the addon.

William

Hello all,
I often read texts in different languages, and I have to use SwitchSynth to switch the language of my synthesizer. What I noticed however, is that most synthesizers support automatic language switching, but the problem is that most text on the internet doesn't come with language attributes properly marked. What I'm thinking of is to write an add-on, that would insert proper language attributes (I mean LanguageCommand for speech.speak()) based on character sets. For example, Russian uses cyrillic alphabet, that can be captured with a regular expression. This way I'd be able to have my synth to switch between English and Russian automatically - I believe Jaws and VoiceOver can both do this already. This might not work for switching between other pairs of languages, say English and Spanish, since they both use Latin script.
I am thinking of writing an add-on for that, but I just want to check if this has been done by anyone else - Let me know!
Best regards

IPA speaking

Cyrille

Hi Alberto and all

I have just begun a little scratchpad script to speak the selected IPA text with eSpeak.

However, when looking at the source file espeak.py, it seems to me that eSpeak supports only 2 phonemes: [s) and [T) (th). Cf. IPA_TO_ESPEAK.

Seems strange to me. Did I miss something ovious?

Do you or anybody else have inputs on this?

Thanks.

Cheers,

Cyrille

Hi Tony,
I'll love it! Seriously, I have this same idea from a lot of time, but I'm lazy, so... go and release soon! :D
I'll particularly love if it'll be able to intercept IPA spellings in Wikipedia, even if eSpeak is the only synthetizer capable to speak them correctly.

Nope – I have things lined up for fall releases. I expect to pass the add-on to the community by this time next year, and until then, there are some maintenance tasks I need to perform to make the add-on bug free as much as possible and make it easier for the new maintainer to keep it updated.

Hi all,

StationPlaylist add-on 20.06.1 is now available. This release fixes how NVDA manages new broadcast profiles. Specifically, if you create new broadcast profiles, switch to these and attempt to save add-on settings, NVDA may say “configuration saved” while not saving add-on settings.

As always the new update is just an add-on update check away.

Cheers,

Joseph

Hello:

obj.setFocus()
eventHandler.queueEvent("gainFocus", obj)

I have a situation where I need to tell NVDA where focus is under certain
conditions because the app doesn't do it properly. This will include handing
NVDA the focus object, with its parentage, assigning the object name, etc.
Any best practice for how to do this? Current NVDA version (2020.1) is the
one of interest, if that matters.

Thanks much for any info.

Re: Windows 10 App Essentials 20.06.1 #addonrelease

Hi,

Special note: the change included in 20.06.1 (and for dev snapshot users, May 23rd snapshot) is based on tree traversal. Thanks to Abdel’s description of UIA condition based traversal (which does work for this one; thank you Abdel), I came up with a fix that will work across Cortana releases unless Microsoft changes UIA properties. The new solution will become part of May 26th snapshot (next week) and will eventually show up to stable channel subscribers in July.

Cheers,

Joseph

To be clear, checking for version info in this way is a bit of a hack, and you aren't doing any exception handling locally to catch the lack of matching groups from the regular expression. So there could definitely be a server-side inconsistency, but you can't rely on the server returning the correct data at all times and not validate it.
