Re: Vocalizer 2.1.0 Ad-on pops in compact voices

For now, we are focused in solving the problems on the driver...

Later we will see that or switch to version 2 of Vocalizer...

Best regards,

Is this the glitch you are talking about? It doesn't exist in 2019.2.1, and the standard and standard-high voices don't exhibit the same issue in 2019.3. See the attached samples for an audio comparison, though the specs on the testing environment isn't all that great.

Hi all,
This message is mainly for Rui but I'd also like to know if anyone else is seeing this.

I just updated to NVDA 2019.3 and took the time to update my ad-ons. Since Vocalizer Expressive (the Tiflotecnia one) isn't ported yet I grabbed the updated version of the Vocalizer 2 driver on the Portuguese site on tiflotecnia.net, plus a handful of old favorite voices (All the English compact ones to use Serena, plus Polish Agata and English Lee in premium).

I'm finding that the 2 premium voices work great. However, the compact voices have audio glitches. It's as if the audio cuts out occasionally for a few milisecond and comes back which causes a slight stutter and sometimes clicks and pops in the audio. These stutters also seem to be consistent and always happen at the same point in a sentence. To reproduce, simply switch to a voice like Karen or Serena, and navigate around the NVDA menu, adjust voice parameters like volume and listen to how the numbers are spoken.

I'm fairly sure I don't remember the voices behaving this badly on older NVDA versions as I used to use them pretty regularly, my computer is also pretty powerful (Core I7-6700 and NVDA is running from an SSD so performance shouldn't be a problem)

Is anyone else seeing this?

Hi, I had the beta version of this addon installed. Your latest addon updater did not flag this but I have it now.

It looks like these aren’t those kind of glitches though. Yeah, every synth has some words that sound weird or are mispronounced. These are much more pronounced artifacts that only appeared with the latest driver update. Timothy’s audio demos illustrate the difference pretty well 😊

Well To be honest, there are little pops at the end of words like late, city, etc, sometimes "t" and other  words with sounding things like t or y or well who knows a lot of things, sound a lot sharper and maybe a bit to much.

It may just be things to get used to but even espeak pops at times.

Re: Question about merging to stable

Noelia Ruiz

Hi, there are errors in the translations system and Mesar is aware. He will work to fix them.
About merging work into stable branch in add-ons organization on Github, where the translation system is set, master and stable branches are protected so that we need to create a pull request that needs an approval, at least from a reviewer, before beeing merged. So I recommend you to wait until the bugs in translations system are fixed. Then, if the add-on workflow is not defined and we should continue workin in the meantime, create a PR from your master branch in your personal repo against stable in the org, so that it can be approved by a reviewer and can be merged.
Cheers

Hi Patrick, I have reviewe diffs paying attention to relevant files

fixed. Anyway, I think it would be good to explain in the top of
documentation that the keystroke can be pressed one to know the
Dropbox status (on My system Dropbox version is not reported) and
twice to open the context menu. This is shown in input help mode
(NVDA+1), so if you don't want to includ it in documentation for any
reason, I understand it.
Also, you may want to add a sentence about compatibility, for
example:
NVDA compatibility: from 2019.1 to 2019.3 or later.

Moreover, I think that you don't need to modify documentation for all
languages. This is extra work for you, difficult to review (though I
see that info about preferences is removed in English, not in
translated files), and should be done by the translation system.
Hope when the future add-on store is out, info about compatibility
don't need to be reflected in the documentation and can be extracted
from metadata and reflected on the website or something.

Re: OCR

Brian's Mail list account

I don't see one. The open source one was a bit flaky at the best of times.

Its a shame though, since I've met a lot of people not intending to update to 10 till their anti virus stops or an app needs 10. The main thing is not that windows ten is hard but the huge updates every six months seems to trash one bit of software or another or lose the data from one. I do appreciate that Microsoft cannot guarantee that all software will work after a given update, but since we blind often tend to hang on to our trusted programs this happens to us more than in the general public.

I can read OCR is not planned to be compatible with NVDA 2019.3.

Is there a solution for user who don't use Windows 10 to have an OCR

Hi, currently some authors and potential reviewers are sending
notifications to a subgroup created by me at groups.io years ago,
since I realised that there was difficult to add notifications from
Bitbucket and for me it was and is important to make things easy for
reviewers. I sent notifications for add-ons maintained by me and
Abdels is also sending notifications for his add-ons. It's a group
with 5 members or so. I don't know other groups sent for this purpose.
You can join us if you want, I can sent you the address you need to
use (since we use a specific integration available at groups.io (a
receive-only address) or a webhook created by me.
Anyway, hope when the add-on workflow is in place this can be done
too. Then, you may prefer to way to see where we should send
notifications or how, or you can join our list (created by me, not
centralized).

Hello Noelia and all,

I updated a little the readme and updated the documentation for
translators.

Another question: I read how to send notification and would like to post
on nvda-addons-commit as it is the case for some add-on. Which address
should I send my notifications to? I can't find it.

Thanks,

Thanks Patrick, this is great. Not sure if you prefer to reflect
compatibility near download links as done in other add-ons, so that
people decides if they want to download the add-on But for me this can
be posted on the website, considering that the documentation is not
completely translated, as expected.

Thanks Noelia, I've updated the readme file to reflect all of your
points.

I have not created another tag but an updated version is available here:

Only the English documentation is updated.

Hi Patrick, I have reviewe diffs paying attention to relevant files
like contained in globalPlugins, appmodules folders and description,
not all modified documentation. I think that bugs commented by me are
Also, you may want to add a sentence about compatibility, for example:
NVDA compatibility: from 2019.1 to 2019.3 or later.

Moreover, I think that you don't need to modify documentation for all
languages. This is extra work for you, difficult to review (though I
see that info about preferences is removed in English, not in
translated files), and should be done by the translation system.
Hope when the future add-on store is out, info about compatibility
don't need to be reflected in the documentation and can be extracted
from metadata and reflected on the website or something.
Cheers

Hi Noelia,

It is hopefully fixed now.

I made a 4.4-dev2, the file name is still named 4.4-dev because I
cannot
update the link in get.php anymore.

So the link reminds the same.

Hop it is OK now.

Thanks,
